With springtime here and summer fast approaching, everything is in bloom!!! That means gardens are growing and the abundance of fresh fruits and veggies are growing! I just love this time of year!!! I love that we can go to farmers markets and grocery stores and be able to find all sorts of fruits and veggies in all kinds of colors. Adding more veggies and fruits to my day have become a HUGE part of my life now! When I have an off day it is usually because I ate too many processed foods and not enough fruits and veggies. I actually crave them now!!
One of the many things I love about the dietSNAPS app is that I didn’t realize until I starting taking pictures of everything I ate as my daily food journal that I realized how many servings of fruits and veggies I was NOT eating everyday. As I started incorporating more color into my day, I noticed I felt more full, satisfied, had more energy, and I even had more success with weight loss when my days consisted of more veggies! There are so many health benefits that fruits and veggies offer and they are so tasty too! It has been my experience that the more veggies and fruit you incorporate into your day and the less processed sugar you eat – then you will start tasting the amazing freshness and flavors of the produce.
I love having my dietSNAPS app to look at throughout the day to make sure I SEE enough color in my journal. Those are usually my best days!
Here are some ideas of adding color to your plate -
When you don’t have color to your meals it can look really boring and not be near as satisfying. When you add color it just looks like it tastes good!

Bell peppers and spinach or fresh basil are a great way to add color to your homemade pizzas (or even delivery ones too )
we really love to make roasted veggies – cut up a lot different veggies into bite sizes, spray with olive oil spray and season with kosher salt and pepper and roast in the oven. We make a big batch up at once and then during the week its handy to grab a serving out of to add to any dish!
my husband likes to add them to his breakfast eggs!
When I’m at a party I always try to follow the same rule of having a colorful plate of fruits and veggies and smaller portions of the not-so-healthy stuff I like to try and eat.
When we eat out - I always look for dishes that have dark leafy greens and lots of color
don’t be afraid to substitute for another veggie to get more color on your plate!!
